I agree that the pathologies described in bug 439448 are similar to
those I am experiencing. I have not (yet?) seen doubled icons, drawn but
inactive icons, overwritten icons, or "broken image" icons. However, it
does seem likely that all of these problems stem from some common
underlying problem.

I also have this bug and would like a solution that does not imply
entering the encoding manually as I am way to lazy to do it. Plus, I
speak three different languages on my ICQ so a one encoding solution
would not work.

think it might be best not to port it to 9.10 partly due to bug #478392
but also that it is not a LTS version.

test again? that might be a driver issue. I have an intel and the issue

The card has video decoding acceleration capabilities yes, and VA-API
also supports MPEG-2 decoding on this card, but it seems like the linux
drivers don't yet support h.264 hardware decoding!
