I have this issue too, I use two keyboard layouts: US and DE (German).

really annoying to have table boxes in a plain text reply.
it's nearly impossible to do inline replys.
so, sebastian, i don't get the point why this should be useful in plain text
mode.
this is a bug, not a feature. and this is not windows, we like to work with
real text.

I did updates since Beta1 and I don't have this feature what is shown in
the attached screenshot. But now I see that it exists and probably I
have to do a fresh install with the final release for get it working
finally. But seeing that, everything should be fine now, for everybody!?

This still happens on the Lucid as of today, I get a prompt to install toc2cue,
which seems to be absent from the repo's, not sure how to fix this.
I can also confirm that this issue did not exists on Karmic (9.10)
