can drop scripts in /etc/X11/Xreset.d/ to run after the user logs out.

The fix in post #7 worked for me as well. However, it seemed to change
my grub background to a debian one. Reinstalling ubuntu-desktop and
gnome-desktop-environment installed some key gnome and compiz components
that had been removed for some reason.

This issue has resurfaced for me in Lucid Lynx. The sound icon is back
in the system tray (also a keyboard layout icon both of) which I want

Something about this is still not right. I'm running Lucid beta,
updated to current packages. I have "Play login sound" disabled in
Login Screen Settings, and yet when I log in, I still get a login sound.
This machine was a fresh install of Lucid, but instead of drum sounds on
login, I'm getting

Come on, this is a *huge* usability issue affecting almost all French
users and which can be fixed by changing a single default option. I
can't see how anything could be more suitable for a "paper cut"!

I am using Lucid with all updates.
ufw.log is included in the left pane by default.
I can File->Open, to open it and add it.
But it was not there by default for me.
But perhaps it would be on a fresh install. I ran since the alpha or
beta then upgraded...

Bug 437429 described a problem where you could not disable the login
sound. With the addition of "Play login sound" setting on Login Screen
Settings in Lucid, that bug was Fixed Released. However, even when
disabled, login still plays the musical so
"workaround 3" works for me.
