I get exactly the same error, using nvidia-96 driver and having gdm
theme installed (in my case it is xubuntu-gdm-theme). If you remove
*-gdm-theme package it starts working.
But as it is, it makes xubuntu/ubuntu unusable for unexperienced user
after they have installed nvidia drivers. So, in my o

A bit more digging through myriad similar issues I found this bug

system is now back recognising blank media. As mentioned by someone

Will this be fixed for Lucid final? It's just a matter of changing the encoding
but a novice doesn't know that.
In Germany most people I know use ICQ and that bug is a big lack.

Er, don't do that. Of course mutilating the plymouth package causes
plymouth failures.
But the initially reported "login bouncing back to login screen" issue
has nothing to do with plymouth. Reassigned to gdm.

Would be a good idea to get the codes for these keys. This can be done
with xev I believe, which is detailed in the above link. If you can
provide that then this should be able to be upgraded to Triaged status

Some file types supported by GStreamer can play continuously...
attempting to play these with totem causes a segfault while totem
calculates the time for the progress bar.
