I just updated 19/03/2010 and gt the same problem, an empty desktop and only
the mouse working, the only key combination that seems to work is Ctrl-Alt-Del.

This can easily be fixed by editing the gnome-panel.desktop file
`sudo vim /usr/share/applications/gnome-panel.desktop`
Move the first line ("X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=gnome-panel-2.0") that
appears before the group name '[Desktop Entry]' to some point after, for
example mine now looks something li
I am affected too. Nothing in gnome starts, even in failsafe mode.
To get a working desktop, I have to start an xterm session, then start
gnome-panel first and then start gnome-session. Starting a gnome-session first
from xterm does not work.
I got similar errors as mentioned in comment #4.

After a reboot, nautilus will no longer run. I have to run both from a

I would of expected a user survey to go out, or something along those
lines to get an accurate, and full understanding of what USERS would
feel best with. After all, ubuntu is an OS that is built around open and
free ideals. Not letting everyone, or at least OPENLY DISCUSS CHANGE, is

I'm not sure if I'm having the same problem, but Nautilus crashes
constantly when emptying the trash on Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit. There is no
crash report but I do see something like this in my system log
immediately after:

Further 52 updates installed today - Wallpaper is loading more quickly
(about 15 seconds, rather than 20+ seconds. Panels do not load, nor do

This has probably been mentioned many times before, however. The way I
look at it, I don't mind them on the left side. What I have a problem
with, is that they just threw the buttons on the left side, and left it
in the same order as they were on the right, meaning the close button is
on the inside
