Paul Tagliamonte that might work but Ubuntu now has encrypted drives
and most . (including .trash) are now encrypted so you can no longer
delete the files in your .trash file if you use encryption which is all
the more reason why this is an important bug.

I can *intermittently* confirm this behaviour in an up-to-date Lucid
install. I am unable to reliably reproduce this every time. In very
quick testing I experienced this behaviour approximately 10 times when
deleting 50 items from the trash individually.

Linux mitch-lucid 2.6.32-16-gene
I have this same issue. Same drive (Pioneer DVR-218L SATA DVD+-R
burner).
Only Audio CDs affect it. Audio CDs crash nautilus and sound juicer
cannot access the drive. Interestingly, vlc can PLAY the disc.
Drive tested and works in Windows 7. Drive has only been in service a
week, doubt it's fault

I'm sorry to hear you're leaving. If you want to give it another try the
cleanest workaround I've found is to do the following:
1) Open a terminal
2) cd /usr/share/gvfs/remote-volume-monitors/
3) sudo mv gphoto2.monitor ghoto2.monitor.ren
I'm not sure if this will break anything else,

@Chris Coulson: I fixed Chris' issue by cleaning his drive. gnome-power-
manager was crashing because it had no place to store temporary data,
because he had less then a K left.
This issue is reproducible and still very important to fix. At least
crash without crashing gdm.
