Dear sir,
I noticed that since I have installed Pidgin - Empathy was working.
If I uninstall Pidgin, after rebooting Empathy again does not work.
If I again install pidgin - Empathy works.
It seems that Empathy is using something from Pidgin to work on my computer.

CTRL+ALT+F1 does work with the DVI port that doesn't normally display
the login screen. Running sudo DISPLAY=:0.0 xrandr -q 2>&1 | tee
~/xrandr.log results in the following (I'll have type it in as I don't

I added about 5 users through System->Administration->Users and Groups. Now,
all these names are visible at the login screen alongwith the option Other... .
