My laptop is doing the exact same thing. It is a Toshiba Satellite

When playlist finished, status says "Not playing", if I choose another
album/playlist and click on "Play" button,
the song is apparently cued to start but nothing progresses. Re-clicking on
"Play" will pause it. Re-clicking on "Play" will now play the song.

I think I've tracked it down a little further.
It seems that only X freezes not the system as a whole. I was able to
trigger this bug from a remote computer via ssh and gather the logs
afterwards. Here's what I did:
$ ssh lo...@ubuntu-9.10
$ export DISPLAY=:0.0
$ export XAUTHORITY=/var/run/gdm/au

I've experienced the same: my laptop display turned off after 1 minute
idle status. I also removed the screen saver that brought up a black
screen and now it is working correctly.

I've got the same problem : When I click on Import, an empty progress
bar appears and nothing more. The console shows :

The document seems to be sent to the printer, but does not print. An empty page
is ejected.
If I print to a file and afterwards open the file with evince, the document is
printed correctly.
xpdf prints the same pdf document correctly.
