When I click "lock screen" in the indicator-applet-session menu, my
screen is locked properly, but the TFT backlight isn't turned off.

As I already stated in #28 this bug has *nothing* to do with compiz,
compositors, window managers or anything else of that sort. If turning
off compiz changes something you should file another bug for *compiz*.
