Hello, I have the same problem over my MSI Wind U100. I noticed, too,
that when the desktop is loaded and the brightness box in top right is
going crazy, if I press ALT-F1 and I write my login, in the password

I was able to reset the setting by re-pairing using a different host
adapter (I guess HSP/HFP isn't compatible with the one I was using?),
resetting the profile back to A2DP, then re-pairing with the first
adapter again. But there should've been a way to reset the profile
without needing to switch

Is this perhaps occurring during indexing by tracker? If so, it may be
a duplicate of bug 450795; signal 24 is from a CPU time limit being

I have run into this problem with LyX-generated PDF files of 5-6 pages,
with some amount of math and graphics; given that the example document
is rather TeXish, I wonder if there's a connection...

letting me know which of the packages in those ppa are the ones I would
install, I will do so. gnome-screensaver or vlc? or both? (want to
make sure I am doing it correctly so we can get proper results.)

Though the open source driver is good, it is unfortunately very slow
compared to the proprietary driver (to the point where flash videos in
full screen are not watchable).

I'm having this same issue. But I've noticed that the problem is not
when opening from nautilus, but when opening a movie with a subtitle AND
having "auto load subtitles" option set.
Disabling this option make it work like a charm. And loading the subs
after the movie is loaded also works.

Bad news. I downloaded the gnome-screensaver from your PPA, installed it
with a 'dpkg -i', but nothing changed: VLC stills doesn't stop the
gnome-screensaver...
