I have been unable to cause it to happen again. I think it may just
have been a corrupted gconf, because removing all of the gconf data
causing it to get re-initialised caused my problem of the white boxes to
disappear. Now I seem to be fine. So I am fine with closing this
unreproducible.

Actually, I cannot give you a screen shot because the problem has to do with

Intel 8150E chipset integrated video. That is, with the integrated video,
trying to
use the Synaptics Package Manager results in the screen freeze as indicated in

- this was patched in Ubuntu 9.04, any reason (other than time/manpower) why
this isn't the case for 9.10 anymore?
