I've noticed this too actually, but I've not yet had time to debug it
properly. Your boot chart shows that a lot of processes remain after the
panel and nautilus die (both of which exit when told to do so by gnome-
session, so are a good indicator of where the session ends).

started making changes to the event sounds in
system->preferences->sound: sound tab, my theme was blank, then changed
to "custom." None of my settings would stick, and the preview buttons
would only preview the default sounds for
