short version: fixed for me
long version: my system was working with self-made packages of poppler 0.11.0
and the same behaviour appeared (I guess) after the latest texlive update.
It is now working fine again with the poppler version available in the archive
but not with the older version!

Hi there, i also have this lappie, i checked the screen brightness and the
problem is even bigger...
the first thing is - yes - the cde events are inivible by xev, but after i do:
dmesg | tail i can see them:

The window withe "Select folder" name is not Baobab's window, it is
Nautilus, the standard gnome file browser. If you create an empty
folder, baobab correctly displays it with a size of 4KB (the directory
bytes).
This is not a bug.
