the period of its execution squishes any icons together removing any
custom icon layout.

Happens to me after updating from intrepid to jaunty. I'm on a thinkpad
with intel 965GM chipset. The upgrade turned off "visual effects".

On the Dell mini, the wireless key (Fn+2) issues keycode 171,
XF86AudioNext. I have configured a 'Custom Shortcut' with the 'Keyboard
Shortcuts' capplet that should run a command to toggle the WLAN state
when I press the wireless key.
I did all the 3 steps (owner for .thinkfinger.bir, owner for uinput and
udev rule) and it still doesn't unlock my screensaver. Any ideas?

I just did a fresh install today. I can reproduce this error.
There is no desktop icons. Right click or left drag on the desktop does not
display anything.
