however it looks like some may just have the problem of disabling the
system bell all together.
It may be important to note that if any of you are using Compiz, you

the panel applet first, then close GPM and relaunch it, the applet will

I agree. I set it up to put automatic contacts into a new (non-default)
address book, and it started filling this with contacts already in my
Personal address book whenever I replied to them. This makes it useless
in my eyes - it should check that the contact is not in any address book
