directly, and didn't bother to install the epiphany-browser package

Same thing here. Two observations may help debug this problem.
1) if I wait long enough for the monitor to go into hardware sleep,
moving the mouse kills the screensaver.
2) Mouse motion kills the screensaver if it comes on while the log on
screen is up.

I have the same issue that Peter has described above. I copied my 46 MB

I did not have this problem in Hardy but am experiencing it in Intrepid.
If I have workspaces in more than one row, eg. 2 rows, 2 columns, and
run "compiz --replace" the switcher ends up with four workspaces all in
one row on the top, and nothing in the bottom row. Screenshot attached.

Davidiam: Yes, the problem persists in Intrepid.
The developers didn't look at my bug yet as far as I can tell. Not much
I can do about that.
I'll try to get a PPA for Intrepid soon. My patches are not "fixes",
they are "reverts" to unbreak what was broken.

Ah, I can confirm that the filebrowser now takes *much* less CPU; having
/var/lib/dpkg/info in the filebrowser is bearable with the update now,
whereas it completely blocked gedit in intrepid final.
Thus re-marking as verified.
I originally tested this with "gedit /var/lib/dpkg/info/adduser.list"
