Yeah, understandable. It only happened when I upgraded the distro at
home and the icons on my desktop representing work samba shares caused
nautilus to crash. Since the upgrade, the samba shares do not get
persisted as icons on my desktop, so I can't reproduce the problem at
home, and without that,
This is a patch to GIO, which selects some icons (missing from the icon theme
of course new icons should be designed).
The patch to GIO makes nautilus pick up the correct icon.

Agreed/Ditto. I've pretty much given up on it. The best "solution" I've
found is to set up shortcuts to every share I use, since browsing is
pretty much impossible. This isn't really Ubuntu's fault since it is a
problem with an upstream vendor, but it's a bit ridiculous that this bug

FINALLY (yes, it has been months) access shares by:

After installing Intrepid beta Gedit has become veery slow when starting (ex
opening a regular text-file)
It didn't use to be that way! It takes about ten seconds to open it's
interface, and another 5 seconds to show the content (for a small file)
changing GNOME to use gnomevfs rather than gvfs would basically means
downgrading some hundred applications and the GNOME desktop to its gutsy
version, you can as well use gutsy if that's to do that change

I cannot reproduce this on Intrepid. It opens nearly instantly, and this is in
a virtual machine.
What version are you using?

I installed as many as I could find of the requested packages - enchant-
dbg is not in repos tho - and needless to say, right now I cannot get
the e-mail to crash - I have replied and forwarded to myself a number of
times and thus far nothing has happened barring the sending a receiving

As far as I understand the situation.
=> a french keyboard layout was designed to take care of specific needs of
french typography, and that's ok.
=> some applications such as Rhythmbox should be changed not to use a given key
or combination of keys (here we are talking about space key as a trig
i had a look though /usr/share/doc/gimp* and the were no image files.
"dpkg --listfiles gimp-help-common" suggested that there should be lots
of image files
I reinstalled the package, and the files appeared. i am confused as to
how this could happen

Actually, there is a typo in the changelog, "only show effects tab is
compiz is installed" should be "only show effects tab if compiz is
installed"

this would be really really high on my wishlist. nautilus is a program
that everyone uses, and fixing this would help bring it on a par with
