Installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS - Hardy Heron on my laptop, which is a intel dual
core T2330 powered machine, but now when i logout/ shut down, screen starts

symbols and it's not good enough. Please follow these instuctions to
have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by
the automatic retracer.
There is no report in crash directory, that is why i ran it in gdb. It
isn't getting detected as a crash, it must be force quit because it just
hangs.
How would i produce a trace that is "good enough"

I can confirm this behaviour in hardy. I don't know if it caused by
gnome menu, but sometimes the panel refuses to hide, sometimes it helps
to click/focus it and then move focus away. then the panel hides. but
sometimes it won't help. this should be fixed as this is basic optional

I'm experiencing this problem running UbuntuStudio Intrepid alpha 6.

I think this is a bug in gstreamer because if you can solve the problem by
running gstreamer-properties and changing the video output plugin to "X Window
System (No Xv)" instead of "Autodetect". The problem is that it comes
