sorry for the delay. I was too busy lately.
I just had a look at the dvd again and this time there is no problem

When I run ubuntu intrepid from the livecd, and click cd-rom/dvd-rom
drive from the menu, nothing happens. The tooltip when you hoover your
mouse over it says "rescan cd-rom/dvd-rom drive" which doesn't make much
sense either.
