I am also experiencing this bug with Hardy 8.04.1. It occurs exactly as
described in the original post for pdf files opened from both firefox
and rubber (called from the gedit-latex-plugin) so I don't think it's
specific to firefox. I do not have desktop effects enabled. Thanks!

Have a look with Nautilus to /usr/share/icons and search for .svgz files (in
"scalable" directories).
You will see that there is a thumbnail for any .svg file but not for .svgz
files.
The only way to get a thumbail is to double click on the .svgz
I have a japanese keyboard (pc106) and some keys still do not work after
upgrading to gnome-settings-daemon (2.23.6-0ubuntu2), although the Up ->
PrtScr problem is indeed fixed (I am using evdev managed keyboard, as
recommended).
The symbols that do not work and used to work before are ']' and '}'
that's a theme issue not a meta-gnome2 bug, Which theme are you using?
and btw where did you read that meta-gnome2 is the right package for
this kind of bugs? I'd like to see that since we're getting quite of few
bugs here which don't have nothing to do with this package. thanks.

The opensource nv driver doesn't work on the onboard graphics but I have
