I've just tested on an up-to-date hardy, cannot read the attached PDF
with evince without poppler-data installed, but can read it after having
installed poppler-data. Note that there are some licensing concerns
with poppler-data: specifically that modification is prohibited. This

You hit the nail on the head Sebastien. From warm boot. Tried player and
it works fine, all features play as normal.

The screen's brightness is automatically adjusted to maximum after each
reboot of the system. I am using a Dell Inspiron 640m. The problem did
not exist in Feisty Fawn. But after the decision to upgrade to Hardy
Heron, it has surfaced.

looks like a poppler issue, almost the same happens with xpdf but it
renders almost ok with acroread it only takes like 2 seconds here to be
loaded, re assigning.
