This is my idea:
gnome-power-manager tries to dim the brightness of the screen after some
inactivity and then reset it upon input.
gnome-power-manager calls HAL to do the job. HAL has multiple methods of
handling brightness of LCD panels. On dell machines, since hardy it uses a

the 8 comments added on saturday don't bring any value to the bug and I
consider that spamming the people subscribed to the bug, that's what this
pointless discussion do too so I'll stop contributing to it now, some notes
though:
- giving urls to other website or blog entry is not considered as
IT does appear there, but you have to restart evolution to get that to
