This same error occurred to me on hardy, from a network boot and
upgrading in steps to get to a GUI.
Attached is an abridged apt term.log to the first occurrence of the
error.(I cut out everything after the first error, nothing before)

Now that a newer package is available it fails with the same error as

which may not be a recommended fix.

necessary; Nautilus is a sane and very functional default for FTP,
especially since, as François said, all other Places menu items open

Started happening to me when I upgraded to Hardy Heron.
Abandon nautilus for PCmanFM until it's fixed.
My NTFS partitions and external harddrives stopped automounting. To fix
that I put in my .bashrc (all one line):
alias fixfuse='sudo mv /usr/local/lib/libfuse.so.2
/usr/local/lib/libfuse.so.2.
