I also had the same problem the other day, this is with 8.04 final. I
fixed it by changing the permissions for my home folder to read/write
by me and my group (only me in it) and no access for all others. No

My so called fix is not as good as I thought. With Totem-Xine I am
unable to play movies on an SMB share.
Unless of course I found where the share is automatically mounted in the
/home/.gvfs folder. However when I tried this I got even worse seek
performance and then the videos stopped playing.
It seems to be fixed in Debian Lenny. I've tried the same stream on a
up2date Debian Lenny and an Ubuntu Hardy. The Ubuntu just stops
(Rhythmbox crashes, Totem only stops working) while the Debian Lenny
machine keeps playing (AND updates the ID-info)

separators are dots. So the decimal dot is no more different from the

I followed your proposal, but while system was up and running I could

In my case, I discovered that it was due to a null password : I created
a guest account and configured gdm so that passwod ios not required for
this account. In order to be coherent I deleted the password with
'passwd -d guest'. This creates a 'null' password that causes th

The problem is that Totem doesn't actually crash, so gdb doesn't catch
anything where I could take a backtrace. Only the movie freezes, the GUI
