I can reproduce the bug.
Interestingly, on the other side, Bug #203722 shows a kind of opposite
behaviour.
It shows an error double clicking floppy icon from Places->Computer the FIRST
time (but not prevent to mounting it even if it's not opened) but it works
correctly clicking on Places->Flop

I can confirm that:
1. The FIRST time you double-click on Computer->Floppy disk, you get an
error message, but the floppy disk is mounted, although it's NOT opened
in any Nautilus window. (This bug).
2. Clicking on Places->Floppy disk without a floppy in the drive, you
DON'T get any error message

If the panel does not come up, then this is probably a problem with the
panel. Please check if /var/crash contains a crash file for the panel (I
assume you use the gnome-panel here?).

Open Nautilus copy something to clipboard and then try to rename a file (press
F2 and CTRL+V).

FYI..I have found that the problem presents itself after the Dell
Inspiron 6000 is restarted after the system was suspended. Evolution
will have the send/receive button grayed out. If you run evolution
restore from the desktop, the problem is then resolved. This is just for
your information.

OK. I'm running Hardy 8.04rc1. I have all the latest updates but I'm
