In my caee the crash occurred after I had added a bunch of new themes

with all latest updates. However if you choose to set the bullet under
the "open with"-fan to "open folder", it shows all options. I can see

jtuchscherer's solution works like a charm with ati x1150. Even compiz-
fusion works properly, I am getting decent framerates too (before it
would either crash or give unbearable fps). No crash with gnome-
settings-daemon anymore and full 3D acceleration, this is a great day :)

Is this still an issue for anyone subscribed to this bug? It appears as
though it might be fixed in the version of Ubuntu that came out in April
of 2007.
