Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could
test with it so we can work
I have a preliminary patch attached to GNOME's bugzilla. It would need
some more love and check if we are affected by upstream's ical memory
changes. No time since I am busy doing gvfs work, but that should
compile and according to Gren also work.

Confirmed while doing development on pm-utils:
On my system:
lshal |grep quirk -> power_management.quirk.vbestate_restore = true

However, pm-suspend is called with the following parameters:
--quirk-dpms-on --quirk-vbestate-restore --quirk-vbemode-restore
--quirk-vga-mode3 --quirk-vbe-
It appears to work. I can login to Gnome and I don't see any crash
messages, and I can see gnome-setting-daemon running.

I believe it is because the plugin does not register with epiphany. The
Java plugin (sun, icedtea or any other) should do it (I am not sure, if
the just have to make correct links in /etc/alternatives or something
more is needed).
