I think that you will find the reason for your error is that the
command for Firefox Beta 3 is "firefox-3.0" rather than Firefox.
While that is an error, it is a separate error and I would expect it
to be fixed.
When Firefox 3 Beta becomes "Firefox", I would expect the command for

Confirmed, I also experience this problem with an up-to-date version of
hardy. Another way to remedy the problem is restarting the applet by
removing it from the panel and re-adding it.
Also, I believe gnome-panel is a more appropriate package for this bug.
