Just to add twopenneth, mute/volume level shows up on sound applet when
adjusting using the mousewheel but sound carries on as normal. Volume
level appears to be accurate but sound continues when showing muted.
Explicitly muting (keyboard button or applet right-click) does mute the
sound.

I import all the time using Fedora 8, using Canon cameras. It works fine

I saw a similar scenario just now: I attempted to display the Properties
dialog for a file on the desktop (to check how big it was).

try killall trackerd and check to see trackerd has exited. Avoid sigkill
if possible otherwise tracker will do a cpu heavy corruption check at
startup if its not been shutdown correctly
then try file chooser (it should auto activate trackerd)

That is correct. The window shows up, but it is empty. There is no
way to start the burn. I have to close the window and terminate the
non-responsive process or the window would just hang there.
