I'm not sure if this is a fix or not, but I can not reproduce with
Nautilus 2.21.6 on Hardy Alpha. When moving the file into the directory
of the folder with the same name, you first receive the
replace/skip/cancel dialog:
"A folder named "Videos" already exists. Do you want to replace
it?
Just another "me too": Lizardmenke's workaround fixed the problem on a
Radeon 9600Pro with the ATI restricted drivers.

I see the same thing with en_GB. I note that setting the language from gdm adds
en_GB.UTF-8 to my .dmrc, which stops the complaining.
This is presumably therefore something from previous installs that is setting
the language without the encoding, which the login session then complains about.
FWIW
In the meantime, I found what was wrong and had not reported it here yet.
It seems it was something related to the icon size (but 150%, I can't be sure
since I'm not on my box at the moment) being to big.
Between two successive crashes, I did Ctrl-Minus to reduce the icon size
and then it stoppe

I was just hit by this bug. I removed evolution-data-server too.
I don't remember if gnome-about-me used to run without evolution-data-
server, but now for sure it's bricked without it.
And g-a-m is not just about password changing: I use it for setting my
avatar in GDM.

So, after making sure that the setlocale () call behaves identically on
gutsy and hardy I moved on and downgraded to the gdm version of gutsy
(updates). Which is 2.20.1 and the problem disappeared. So this is
totally caused by a change in gdm (2.20.1 -> 2.20.3). Looking at the
diff didnt reveal any

It is not gdm issue, you can easily fix it by edit /etc/pam.d/gdm
replace this line:
@include common-auth
with
authrequiredpam_unix.so nullok
Because common-auth will check if the login user has a tty when empty password
is provide.
But you can not get a tty from gdm login window.

Sparhawk, I don't know. But I know that the kleansweep-helper command-
line tool that comes with Kleansweep has been able to find temp files
left over from disk-full-upon-compression ever since earlier this year,
but the Kleansweep GUI cannot. Use the -e option ("search for temporary
files").
