i just installed hardy alpha 1...problem persists in the same way.
again gnome panels appear right away just like feisty, only to be near
immediately killed, then reappear 10+ seconds later. occurs in the same
way as gutsy, but maybe to be expected since this is only alpha 1.

I have checked it and everything is started (gdm and gnome-power-manager),
but it seems that when I reload gdm with:
/etc/init.d/gdm restart
as root, on the server, then the log out dialog appears (with three options:
log out, change user and switch off). Anyways, it doesn't do anything, just

Thanks for your reply, Pedro. I checked it with a clean user, and it
worked just fine. Removing ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox from my own home
directory resulted in a perfect result as well. Bad news is that I have
occasionally removed that directory completely instead of backing it up,
so I doubt it would b
Can you please mark this bug as a duplicate of another bug in this
tracker if it has already been reported or link this bug to another
external tracker if it has been reported upstream so I can track its
progress ?

But why should I run esd to have vumeter ?
Running Gutsy btw. esd seems not to be enabled by default.
