I also ran into a bunch of these problems today with the released gutsy
version. Here is what I found:
Using "System::Administration::Shared Folders" I can easily share a
folder but if I try to access it from a remote machine no combination of
username/password will work. To fix that I had to run

I guess .eml files should be automatically recognized by shared-mime-
info (thus by nautilus) as emails to open with the default mail
application, even when their header is missing (since there is no
ambiguity about the contents of the file). One may want to remove the
"From" header from the file.
I should have precised: Thunderbird in Gutsy correctly saves mails from
inbox, but not from sentbox (as said in the description). There are two
parts in this bug.

Thanks to the people over at GoT, I've finally discovered where the
problem lies.
Open /etc/hosts and add your hostname to "127.0.0.1 localhost", which
should solve that annoying DNS issue. I think Ubuntu should
automatically do this?

Okay, so the workspace "bug" doesn't seem to be a bug after all.
I was experiencing that because of how Compiz handles workspaces
differently. "make sure you have only 1 workspace set in gnome which

I have this issue on Gutsy64 with an on-board sound card from the nforce4
chipset, and I just wanted to add an interesting detail to this report:
With two instances of the Volume Applet, they are not synchronized in when they
appear mute. So i can play with the volume, and one applet turns mute,
I confirm this bug. This is how "Users and Group" works, it retrieves
the configuration when started and rewrites it when configuration is
changed but doesn't re-read it after being started.

havin' the same problem. I imported all my songs per smb from a NAS and can't
change mp3 tag information. After some seconds all (one file, two files,
multiple files) changes are reset to previous. Can't remember that it works
before.

If you have a standard /etc/group, users GID is 100. Could you check
that your GID in /etc/passwd is 100 ?

@Massimo forti: concerning the forti group you're trying to delete. Are
you sure it's not the main group of one of your users ?

I do have the messages in /var/log/syslog that Grizzly mentioned, on the
local machine, if I use a local Gutsy to try to connect to remote Gutsy
with XDMCP from the GDM login screen (it always works using Xnest on the
local machine instead of GDM).

Here is all my laptop's relevant information (the rest to follow in
additional comments). I do not have any asound.conf files so those are
missing.
Also the alsamixer command line app works fine, and the applet icon
accurately reflects the set volume. If the gnome volume control program

I don't know what "kill -0" means, but thanks for looking into fixing
this ongoing, very annoying bug. When a person can't expunge messages
from an inbox, the program becomes useless! So thank you for any
efforts you can put toward getting it fixed.

I know that the patch for libx11 is 'not the right patch' as upstream
put it. But it lowers the impact for me in the meantime
