when I edit the preferences and set "Columns" to 4, it has no effect at all.
There are still only 2 workspaces available. Changing the "Row" setting has also

That is correct. No compiz, title bars appeared. Seems fine now, though.
The problem survived multiple reboots so I think something in compiz got
confused about where the screen started and ended. Only affected
evolution though...

might also have stored passwords etc.
As you said, browsers provide some options to e.g. cleanup after a web

would be interesting to know how you managed to have a file instead of
the directory there, what is the eog content? That doesn't really look
like a eog bug though it could handle the buggy case without crashing

I tried doing as you said, changing user and logging in without awn, but the
same thing happened. I guess it must be something to do with compiz-fusion
