I have been seeing the same symptoms. I was at first unable to
reproduce it reliably, but I found that button-mashing (like repeating
the home keys: "asdf;lkj") while in unicode-input mode (scim) would
crash it quickly. Actually, it doesn't crash, it just locks up. I have
to then kill it manuall

I use Ubuntu Feisty 7.04, GNOME 2.18.1, Nautilus 2.18.1-0ubuntu1.
It happens to all files, in the home and on the root, but not always. I don't
know if the problem still exist on Gutsy.
Now I can't attach the backtrace because it didn't crash. But this morning I
