If I leave system monitor open while working often some ended processes remains
in the list, apparently random.
Anyway there's a way I can trigger this bug every time, I do the following:

- open a shell window and launch avscan program from the command line, start a

Yup, I sure do. I have found a way to manually fix it. I open the run dialog
(alt-f2) and run gnome-terminal. I then run: sudo killall -9 gnome-panel and
the panels finally pop up.
Maybe that helps with narrowing down the problem for you :)

To turn off th eSTUN server:
Edit->Preferences->Network Settings->NAT traversal method: select "none".
Check if Edit->Preferences->Network Settings->Network Interface is set
to the correct one.

Ok, I checked: that's not converter's fault, the bug happens also when I
do not use that converter. Also, the output from xev is identical
whether the system is misbehaving or not.
