What is very important:
Apart from how the dialog should look - it is very important that you
get the same dialog when you click on

I then did the same in synaptic, completely removed, but also gnome-
panel. Then reinstall. Now it dpkg correctly. I checked
/usr/share/gconf/schemas/panel-toplevel.schemas

Is it the way it usually works? For a non-programmer like, it seems
quite strange to add work every 30sec in the application to prevent a
screensaver to start - but anyway, I'm just a noob :)

the 30sec code is already there, its just calling xscreensaver-command,
my code just executes gnome-screensaver-command additionally if its
installed ... i wont change the way vlc works, thats up to the upstream
developers

Earlier today, I downloaded & installed the latest release of Foresight
Linux (which also uses GNOME 2.13.91/2) and encountered exactly the same
behavior - gnome-cups-manager fails to detect
