We got a new kernel, nothing else that would possibly explain this.

Hey folks. I don't know what happened, but I just applied the latest
updates a few minutes ago April 4th at 9PM EST, and the volume buttons
as well as the brightness buttons (which were also a bit weird) are now
working as expected.

Followed the instructions as best I could, but couldn't detect the key
presses. Here were my notes...
- Ran the following command: xev | sed -n 's/^.*state \([0-9].*\), keycode
*\([0-9]\+\) *\(.*\), .*$/keycode \2 = \3, state = \1/p'
