I did try removing all the accounts and it seemed to work fine after
that. I was thinking it was related to the Application Specific password
feature being enabled on my Google account but it doesn't use an
application password in the Online Accounts menu in System Settings.

no update from empathy..
are you getting this crash during adding account first time...
i guess you have having the same crash as the other people have,,as in this bug

can you just follow these steps to see that the crash is occuring
I can't seem to be able to reproduce the bug now. Maybe some update
fixed the issue. I'll set up a virtual machine to try and replicate the
error.

Sure, no problem. It's likely that this isn't a problem with the Ubuntu
packaging of empathy, and will need to be addressed by the folks over at
GNOME. Could you possibly report this to the empathy developers at their
