With new version of gimp the problem was resolved.
I've a test with ubuntu gnome 12.10, Gimp 2.8.6 and Intuos2 tablet.
For me this is bug is closed.

The same happens to me. Watch the video. I must click on the GIMP main window
to access the 'Save As' or ' Menu -Preferences'. And I always have to choose
the Graphic tablet in GIMP preferences-input devices. Otherwise, it does not
work. This is since ubuntu 10.04.
