AFAIK, you should instead use the "Incomplete" bug status in such cases
(in 60 days of inactivity it automatically gets "Expired"):

applets, but that doesn't work if I run compiz instead of Metacity.

Compiz should only grab input for the alt key in combination with the
left mouse button, and not with the right mouse button. If this were
done correctly there would not be a conflict, and "Alt-Right Click"
would still work with the panel, at the same time that "Alt-Left Click"
is used for window
This is because the Alt-key + mouseclick is used for moving and resizing
windows.
You can change Compiz to use the Win-key instead of the Alt-key.
