With the next Gutenprint package (now for testing on http://www.linux-
foundation.org/~till/tmp/ubuntu/feisty/gutenprint/binary/) there will be
two PPDs per printer in a standard installation. One is marked
"(simple)" the other "(expert)". Both use Gutenprint and give the same
output quality. The u

Recommended drivers are only marked by the "(Recommended)" in the
PPDfile's NickName currently. Printerake also uses the "(Recommended)",
but has some extra features for handling recommended drivers, like
passing the "(Recommended)" to a native PostScript PPD if the Foomatic
"Postscript" driver is
This is because none of the mentioned PPDs has an indication "recommended" in
the *NickName.
g-c-m only preselects the recommended driver if this is indicated in one the
PPDs, if there is no recommended driver no driver is preselected.
