OK, I found the culprit: I had thousands of bogus gmail contacts
(created by a bug in thunderbird's google contacts addon). I deleted
them and now everything is fine. Sorry!

I confirm the bug is back in Trusty when using gnome-online-accounts
with a GMail account. And, by the way, the same bug occurs with gnome-
contacts too. Both workd perfectly a few weeks ago, so something must
have broken very recently.

Binoy, that is not enough information. If you can show that empathy-chat
is using more than a few percent of CPU, then this bug might be

I rolled back to "empathy/natty" only (plus the few dependencies) and
that appears to avoid the problem, with the rest of the system fully
oneric. Here's what APT said about downgrading to something that works.
