I was having this problem with an nvidia 6600GT. I haven't been able to
reproduce it after downgrading to the 173 series nvidia driver, using
the "Additional Drivers" UI.
Does this work for anyone else? It suggests this is indeed a bug in the
current series nvidia driver.

a video in a small window, but when the video gets big enough (either

Interestingly thought, I switched recently from a 7600 GS AGP and an AGP
mainboard over to a Geforce GT 430 PCI-E and a PCI-E mainboard, and now
I can play videos (even 1080i) in fullscreen and in a maximized window
without problems and no crashes at all. Is this problem maybe related to
the nvidia

I've got this problem as well.
NVIDIA 6800 with latest nvidia-current driver.
In my case, this happens only with Unity session.
There's no problem on Ubuntu classic session(with compiz)
