Yes, I can confirm this. The extract button works - like every time on
my computer (feisty, gutsy...) and drag and drop to archives too but
from archives it's broken - I think since dapper or edgy.

On gutsy:
1. the extract button works again (yah!)
2. drag and drop to an archive works (i think that never broke)
3. drag and drop from an archive to nautilus or the desktop still does not work
So the most important issue (what this bug was about: the extract button
not working) has been fixed, i
Does anybody get the issue on gutsy?

I see. I just don't understand why the priority of this bug has been set
to "Low", as far as I can see it's rather significant.
Do you know any alternatives for File Roller for Ubuntu? I've been
searching the forums but I can't seem to find anything.

Just use 'extract' here or install another program instead of file-roller and
associate that with archives.
This bug has been going on for a while now, I'm not sure when (if ever) they
are going to fix this. Maybe if you're any good with C you can take a look?

I'm experiencing the same problem. The "Extract" button (in the

I have tried with location bar and without it, works anyway

A breadcrumb bar is a series of buttons where each button represents a
sub-directory.
A location bar is one big text entry where you can edit the path directly.
You can enable it using Control+L or by clicking on the location-entry button.
When you enable it, the settings is remembered and used f
What is a 'breadcrumb' bar? What I have seems normal to me

Ralf, such "rant" are not useful, feisty is not stable yet and bugs will

I can confirm this bug. PS. The location entry is always displayed here.
The only way to get archive-manager to extract any file is to move up a
directory and back down.
This sums it up:
- you can't drag and drop
- you can't use the 'extract' button
Conclusion:
- 99% of the users won't be
That doesn't reply to the previous question which was about the location
entry, not the archive type

No, it seems to be every time for every archive(type) and in Nautilus or

I also have the same issue:
1. Opening a archive-file
2. Dragging one file/dir or some files/dirs
3. Dropping to Nautilus/Desktop: Nothing happens; There is also no + in
nautilus windows like in edgy.

I have the same issue, although only when trying to extract to my home
directory (the default directory that comes up in file-roller). I have
to put "./" in the location box for the extract button to work in this
scenario. I have no trouble extracting to other folders.

Yup, it's still broken. The command line shows nothing. I tried running

running some function called gettimeofday() every millisecond and
polling something (dbus? ionotify?) constantly.
I hit "Extract" and killed file-roller as q
That works fine for me. Do you still have that problem? Do you have any

It doesn't work for ~any~ file; ZIP, RAR, etc.
I should add that the "Extract" button in the top toolbar works fine.
It's the "Extract" button in the dialog box asking where you'd like to
extract the file that's broken.
This isn't a crash, but would an strace or something similar help?
