Both /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog doesn't show anything of
interest. If I knew how, I could raise the detail level to debug. I
don't remember how to do that, though...
Anyhow, in the attachement you find logs from both syslog and messages.
The steps taken are:

likely to be a GNOME bug, rather an xorg or linux one. Do you have any
