The bug is still present in Lucid. Adding the user to the group
nopasswdlogin will make login work, but without a password, which isn't
something I'd want on a server available on the internet

I forgot to mention that this started right after upgrading from Lucid
Lynx to Maverick Meerkat. No such problem before the upgrade.

About the same problem here. Same messages in the logs; however, nothing logged
when gdm crashes. Which happens after some minutes of inactivity or reliably
after waking my Thinkpad from suspend. This bug seems pretty severe to me. I
had a look at the X11vnc package Chele suggested, but it isn't
I was the same problem and we went remove program by program and check.
When I remove X11vnc packet my system don't crash the X after two
minutes.
Problably don't eliminate the problem but it is a clue for to detect
this!

I don't know... I just upgraded from Lucid to Maverick on my netbook and
it's returning to the login screen a couple of minutes after I log in
and the desktop has loaded. I don't know if it's related to your issue
but this isn't happening on my other laptop that I just upgraded to
Maverick.

This should probably be closed: I reinstalled from the Maverick Desktop
install CD and everything works okay. Also, I upgraded to Maverick on
three other computers and all are working correctly. Perhaps some weird
setting on my side. Thanks anyways, and keep up a good work!
