I have since discovered that sh.lang has been corrected for the problem
that I reported in comment #9 and so this can probably be re-closed.

gedit has highlighting for sh, but not for bash.
Most of the time, this works fine for bash, but sometimes it goes wrong.
For example, use a command substitution that contains a quote within
case-esac as follows.
#!/bin/bash
case ${SOMETHING} in
( 'a' )
There's POSIX shell highlighting but no bash.

I still don't see an options for it nor even in a text file it used to
highlight comments in blue and it no longer does.
If i am missing something please let me know. Liam you stated i might have
disabled a plug-in, can you please point me to a plug-in that controls this so
i can see if i have i
I did not disable plugins and it is same on any system i am running
ect... maverick/natty clean or upgraded. Gedit does not offer bash as a
highlight option if you see it somewhere please tell me where to look.

Marked invalid, gedit has more or less always had bash hilighting.
Perhaps you accidentally disabled a plugin?

I can't reproduce this. gedit does have syntax highlighting for bash on
my Maverick install.
