I am on newest state of Edgy!
And I am not having problems with my ppd:
"cupstestppd CLP-510.ppd" gives the following:
CLP-510.ppd: PASS
WARNDefaultLinuxGDIBand has no corresponding options!
WARNObsolete PPD version 4,0!

I experience the same troubles when trying to add a network printer
(IPP).
I go through the steps in adding a printer (gnome-cups-add I assume),
but when finished no new printer is installed?
In /var/log/cups/error_log is says:
