The situation seems to have worsened for me. These games are now either
frozen, or moving so slowly that I can't distinguish the difference.

This affects me as well (64-bit Lucid on Dell Inspiron 1420n).
I have also noticed this same problem in Swell Foop.
With both games, I have to wait so long for the animations that I lose
patience and give up trying to play.
Gnome games should help relieve stress, not create it!
