I tested writing CD-RW now again with my new drive. Writing worked with
maximum speed but the Nautilus CD burner still did not show speed under
16x.

The UI bug is a bug in the open source ATI driverxserver-xorg-driver-

Thanks for your bug. The theme issue is likely to be bug #34435. Could
you run /usr/share/nautilus-cd-burner/list_cddrives and copy that to a
comment? What does hal-device-manager list as write speeds for the
drive?

Is it possible that the CD drive had been broken because of incorrect
software? Previously it did read the disks OK.

My LG DVD drive is broken. Now it can't even read CD discs.
I have tested the CD burner in another machine with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS and
none of the mentioned bugs occur. However, the incorrect GUI behaviour
is a bug even though the CD drive is broken.
